I'm a Carnivorous Plant enthusiast. I used to grow many different kinds of carnivorous plants, mostly Venus Flytraps. I ended up moving to an area where having all my plants was not possible so I had to sell all of them. :(.. It was sad but I'm now in a place where I have more room and can start collecting and growing my Carnivorous plants again!
I'm in Zone 6 but right on the edge of being in a Zone 5. I do have longer winters and a little less sun than some climates but I'm going to do my best to get my plants acclimated to my weather and grow them big and strong. I'm excited to bring you on this journey with me! I plan on showing you all my successes and failures with these incredible plants.
My dream one day is to open my own Carnivorous Plant Nursery here in the pacific northwest. Your subscription, like and share all help support me in that dream. You can buy soil now at my store linked below, thank you so much for supporting me and my dream!

Venus Flytrap Post Repotting Care Tips - Walmart Venus Fly Trap 2 Week & 60 Day Update
Interesting video, but for the time, I think just paying the $3 at walgreens for the distilled water is a better deal.
$3 is expensive, buying a zero water pitcher is even better!
Remember me when you become famous
Forever and for always.
It takes you TWELVE minutes to tell us THREE facts?? This is why people hate these things
In all fairness, it's more like 3 topics, I never said 3 facts.
My venusflytrap flowered and a bee was pollinating it. Its almost a week. Do i have to cut the flower off? What if i dont and just leave it.?. After seeding will my venusflytrap start growing again. Because it stop producing new traps.
Hi, please make a video on vft water germination or at least give me advice please. 😊
Just watered for the first times with tap water foor the first time before i watched your video what should i do
I would just flush with some distilled water. Water, let it drain out of the bottom. Do this 5 to 7 times. This will flush out any minerals you put in with the tap water.
Will bottled spring water be ok
I can't say with certainty without measuring with a tds meter. Sometimes minerals are added to spring water for flavor.
What should I do if my Venus flytrap is not opening when it didn’t eat food??? Because I got it today
Is well water ok?
Hard to say for sure. You would have to measure with a TDS meter.
My 5 year old daughter wants a Venus fly trap for her birthday on July 4th & I have been binge watching all your videos, terrified I’m going to accidentally kill her plant! 🥲 They seem so high maintenance 😓
Hey, I recently got a 600W SANSI 4Gooseneck LED Grow Light. I only have a single plant, but after some research found out my previous grow light was essentially useless. I was wondering if you had any insight on how to set it up. Does it need all 4 bulbs on it? How far away should they be from the plant? I’ve searched high and low for info but can’t find any specific to this setup. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
I have a Venus fly trap I got from a grocery store. Why doesn't it attract flys?
What about leaf prop?
Yes Lowe’s! Only one alive / dying trap extremely droopy and black under shelves last one used distilled water and didnt feed it for a few weeks until another sprouted than fed it a fly. About 2-3 months later entering summer after extensive care. big traps along with them Fully sprouting seeds! They were on sale for around 2 dollars. They got out their dormancy in April and slightly bigger traps good luck!
I have a few pitchers, two being American, and one being a tropical. I was wondering if you had any tips for actual care for American pitchers? Not repotting. Or how to repot if you have a container made of glass or terracotta? I also have some flytraps that I need help repotting.
I’m lucky enough to live about ten minutes away from California carnivores, and though I was never able to go on any tours, it is extremely cool to look in! Plus you can see all the cobra lilies out front! It is my main place to order carnivorous plants, so I will have to do some shopping soon. You have such a cool channel!
Cuantas plantas te han salido cuantas salen en un solo talló floral?
Es recomendable mantenerlos a sol directo o luz indirecta?
That is where my pretty moss is from too. I would love to grow it but not sure how. I have tried with the moss from the plants I get but it isn’t doing all that great. I will keep at it. Thanks
I've had success pulling peices of the moss they provide and growing. Just keep it super wet and in some humidity. If cover it with something see through and keep light on it, it will grow. The wetter it is the happier it seems to be!
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub I will certainly give that a try. We have super humidity here in south Florida so it shouldn’t be hard. I have it in some water but inside instead of outside so I will make those changes and keep trying. Thanks
Congratulations. That is wonderful, I will be buying your soil.
Thank you soooo much! I just saw your order come through, I appreciate it so much. I'll get it fulfilled and sent out today!
No hurry. I know you are busy.
Do you use live moss on top of your plants and if so can you recommend a good place to order it from. I think it really makes the plants look better. Thanks and I love your videos.
That's a great question, most of the moss I have has come to me as hitch hikers from California Carnivores. It's a star moss. I'm not sure where you would buy just the moss.
I’ll need to order more soil this summer
I got you my friend!
Most well water is actually higher in minerals and other adulterants than most city tap water (though, as always, there are exceptions). Unless, of course, your city water is sourced from wells, in which case, there’s no difference. In many wells, there are also contaminants from agricultural chemicals, industrial pollution, or even sewage. Unless you’ve tested your well water, you just don’t know.
That makes a lot of sense, thank you for the input Gary, great information!
First time ordering carnivorous plants I ordered 2 plants and got 4 free gifts so definitely recommend getting plants from rainbow carnivores or california carnivores 👍
Woo hoo, plant mail!!!
I agree that it’s not a great idea to use “play sand.” Not only is it typically not 100% silica, but it can clump up, and the “play sand” I’ve bought had a lot of dirt (e.g., silt, clay, organic matter, dust, and general filth) in with the sand. You can wash most of the dirt out of it if you have a LOT of time, but if you can get a cleaner sand (or comparable substance, like your pulverized glass), you’ll make your life easier.
It looks great. I especially like that you rinse the gunk out of the substrate before you package it. But doesn’t it take approximately forever to run that much water through a Zero water filter pitcher?
Approximately, yes. It does. Lol. Not a fast process, but I like selling a quality product that's ready to use!!
Question, if i bought mine and it's about to go into dormancy, should i wait to repot it in spring or should i repot asap?
I have my first Venus Flytrap. I'm using distilled water and potting soil I got from a carnivorous plant nursery made of peat moss, perlite, and sand. I am concerned about the amount of light my plant is getting. We live in a very wooded area. The most sun is on our driveway, but I'm worried about excessive heat reflected from the concrete. I have the plant on our back deck where is gets direct sunlight maybe 3-4 hours. Is that enough direct sunlight? Should I invest in an outdoor grow light and, if so, what would you recommend?
Do you have any tips on how to help the plants grow roots? I acquired a nepenthes lowii x ventricosa fairly recently but the roots are really and I mean really small on it
Drinking game… take a hit every time he’s says “Ummm” or “Err” 😂
Only of you want to get wasted! 🍻
Binging your channel again old friend.
What about adding water to the pitchers?
How to treat Spider mites on Venus flytraps? Those very small red spiders. Thanks
I got neem oil for my pitchers sundews and flytraps which got red spider mites, and a type of disease on the pitchers, I also just sprayed it on every other day until everything, including the mealybugs on the sundew was gone. Hope this helps!
Do you have to „feed“ them if you don’t have gnats? I want to buy one to begin with carnivorous plants bc they are so beautiful 😍
I live in Fl so it doesn’t really get cold over here so what will be a good alternative to dormancy if you don’t have a garage
By the way, there are no organic glazes on ceramics. All glazes are made of minerals. Organic or inorganic, that doesn’t have much to do with whether or not anything from your pot can dissolve and get into soil. To know that, you’d have to do tests, which I gather you have done, at least to the extent of measuring TDS.
Honestly, I'm not a glazed pot expert. I just avoid them personally but some people really love the style of ceramics. Calling out a natural or organic was more to avoid any gross chemicals. I tested the tds in my wives glazed pot before. Went from 0 to 3 on the TDS in over a week. Indoubt that was ever going to get over 10. I think it's probably safe with a glaze but it wouldn't be my first choice.
If I’m trying to propagate a plant from a flower stalk, would it help to apply a rooting hormone (such as the ones sold at garden stores)?
Hi my Venus fly trap head always grow red but slowly goes green what that means
Another flaw in the little plastic boxes is that they don’t allow air circulation. Without air circulation, and with a continually moist substrate, you’re likely to get fungus or mold inside that box.
😂 I wish you could cross the plants like that, would make some crazy combinations
Haha! Me too, would be a lot of fun!!
“Don’t try to grow it in a terrarium” is the best advice ever for growing a Venus Flytrap. It’s also very helpful to learn that they aren’t tropical plants, they like direct sun, and they don’t need high humidity. All of this contradicts other advice I’ve gotten.
It's crazy how much bad info is out there for vfts...
I just purchased this one yesterday. Thank you for this info.
Beautiful plants. I'm going to try and sell some of mine soon!
It should have came with straps for fan mine did
easier way to repot sarrs are just to hold the sarr center and fill the pot
I used to do that. Always had difficulty getting the rhizome right where I wanted it. This way is a bit trickier but I can be more precise. Either way works though!
I have one Sarracenia that ate too many flies (almost to the top of one pitcher) well it has indigestion and that pitcher has browned, it happens. On Amazon those pots are sold in bulk and expensive. Side note I have two small Sarracenia Leucophylla bare root being mailed. Currently using dehumidifier water at around 20 TDS.
That all sounds perfect! Yes, they can get their fill. Lol. That's just fuel for the new pitchers! Ya, they are expensive to buy in bulk, that's whay I wanted to give people options to buy them for a more reasonable price and amount. Excited for you to get your plant mail!!
With the tall planters, isn't it difficult to keep the water table as high as most carnivores like?
They just want it moist. They don't need their roots underwater but they can tolerate it. Sarracenia a lot more than VFT. Sarracenia can stay submerged almost indefinitely. Venus Flytraps begin experiencing root rot after being submerged for over a week or two.
Yes, it will require a bit more water, however for optimal growth these plants (as well as flytraps) need deeper planters for their roots to stretch out. The smaller thr planter the more root bound they can get. Smaller planters are okay when the plants are small but will stunt their growth. These plants tend to adapt to their conditions. Small planter will typically yield smaller plants in the long run. Give your plant room to grow and they will maximize in size. So yes, water is a little harder to keep up with, but it's part of growing large, healthy, strong Sarrs & Venus Flytraps.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub For me, the challenge with tall pots isn't keeping up with the watering. It's finding a tray that's deep enough to go around them and keep the water table high.
@arvetis do you mean to prevent them from tipping over?
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub Tipping is one issue, yes, but also I know that most of them want their roots close to the water level in the tray. The taller the pot, the taller tray you need to keep the water at that level.
How many times the venues fly trap eat in the summer and winter?
Venus fly traps don’t eat during winter because of dormancy but during summer they eat as much as they can catch
It's hard to say to be honest. Like Tenessee said, not much in the winter. If they are outside, they get their fill. Each trap can catch like 2 to 4 insects before turning black and dying. I've never counted and each plant will be quite different.

Definitely not! I'm right there with you!
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub hey. What kind of moss do you use in the pots with your traps??
Thanks, just got my hands on one of these and watched multiple videos about it like crazy. Just wondering about the watering method, because I've seen people either water them with the tray or straight from the top which method do you use?
I've always tray watered mine.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHubThanks for the advice mate (just like with all the other carnivorous plants😁✌🏻)
